The World’s Oldest Profession by Gerri Brousseau

I recently saw a story on Nightline about paid male escorts – yes ladies and gentlemen “gigolos.”  Apparently, in the states of California, Nevada, Texas, New York and Florida it is not against the law as long as there is no mention of sex or payment for sex.  The reporter interviewed the owner of the business profiled and asked him if sex was involved.  He replied, “not to my knowledge,” but, he added, “if there is sex and money changes hands behind closed doors ….”

The men they showed looked like Gods.  The service advertises them as “the perfect boyfriend” because these guys are handsome, attentive, polite, cultured, and man were they built!  The cost? $500 per hour, of which the escort gets 80%.  That’s $400 per hour, and he hasn’t even gone to law school!

One of the women interviewed was an attractive business woman who paid $2000 for a 4-hour date.  When the reporter asked her why she used this service she said she works a lot and is too busy for a relationship.  A second woman was featured in the interview.  She was the CEO of a company, 34-years old and overweight.  This CEO said she has been struggling with her weight for years but since she started using the escort service, she has lost weight at a steady rate.  She said this is because every time she loses 5-pounds, she rewards herself with a $1000 date with one of these escorts.

They showed a clip from “American Gigolo” and I have to say, even Richard Gere at his prime didn’t hold a candle to the men featured in this program.  Even Dermot Mulroney “The Wedding Date” paled.

I know this profession has been going on a very long time, thus the name “The World’s Oldest Profession” but were male escorts as popular as female escorts?  With women becoming CEOs of large corporations, doctors and attorneys, do you think the male/female roles have completely reversed?  And more than that … do you think the IRS would allow me to deduct the fee under the guise of research?????

  1. Research. . .ah. . .gotta love it in this job;) I’d say go for it and see if you can write it off!
I think when women use male escorts, it’s waaaay different then when men use them. But I did see that Nightline and I was floored too:))

    • I know … I was floored too. Weren’t those men really handsome. I wish I could justify the expence just to see what they are really all about. I feel I have a job to do … I’m an advocate … Inquiring minds want to know!

  2. I think a woman would pay a man to just sit and listen. He’d also have to offer up a thoughtful response to a question or comment instead of a grunt or a “I know what you’re saying” statement (whereas he really has no clue and is just trying to end the conversation). I’m not sure I’d ever pay for sex when there are just so many guys running around willing to share their most prized possession.

I love Richard Gere … he comes across as sweet and thoughtful, but he’s probably just like any other guy at home. Leaving clothes scattered about, shaving only when necessary (holidays, birthdays, and an occasional Sunday), and thinking that beer and buffalo wings are daily nutritional requirements.

Hmmm, on second thought it might be a wise investment that would provide a lovely view across the dinner table. He probably wouldn’t take his shoes off and prop his feet up on the coffee table after plopping his butt down on the couch & yell out “Hey babe, grab me a beer will ya?” AND he would NEVER leave the seat up (or worse leave it down while having bad aim).

What was that phone number again?.

    • I agree, Kathy. I bet he has habits that irritate his wife. Still, he is quite a looker. The men on this Night Line though seemed to be (and I highlight “seemed”) good listeners, well mannered, versed on many subjects … I wonder if the owner of the business puts them through some type of training? I mean seriously, he must. I’m with you … pass me that number!

  3. I give serious kudos to the woman who rewarded herself with a date for every 5 pounds with one of these guys. And here I am giving myself a pat on the back. I need to rethink my strategy! Gerri, good luck with the “research” and the IRS!

    • Thanks for commenting, Gail. In all honesty, I think it’s really sad for someone to spend that much money for company and attention. Even if I had the money, I couldn’t justify spending it in that way.

  4. History tells us to have people you want and to have control, you have to pay somehow. Look what Cleopatra did to Moses, that was a mess. She used him, abused him and then loosed him. People don’t change. I love this post Gerri. It is fun to read about the naughty girls and boys b/c that when it all begins. We only need to be one step ahead of the game.

    • Hi Gail,
Thanks for commenting. I have to agree with you.

  5. Great post!

  6. Okay, Gerri. Brava. There’s no way I’m coming close to topping your post. Not even with a ten foot pole. No pun intended. (LOL)

  7. Thank you, my mentor!

  8. Wow, wish I was handsome-
