Fun with Vampires

My husband thought it would amuse me to watch a documentary on vampire movies. He was right. Here’s my take on some of the vampire movies. I tend to like the movies where the vampires have interesting personalities. If you read my books, you’ll see that I’m not into slayer stories. I make the exception for Buffy and I think that’s really because of Angel and Spike.

From Dusk til Dawn–incredibly violent. George Clooney, Cheech Marin, Salma Hayek–has the most amazing dance scene.

Queen of the Damned–based on Anne Rice’s book, one of my favorite movies, I love the main character Jesse who has an aunt for a vampire, so she’s naturally intrigued by the differences between vampire and human. I love the idea of Lestat being a rock star.

Nosferatu–the one in 1922. It’s still scary. I only watch it on Saturday afternoons. Max Schreck is just so eerie as the vampire.

Underworld — I love the battles between vampires and werewolves. I loved Selene’s clothes.

But which, what in my opinion, would be the ultimate vampire movie? I haven’t seen it yet. Until then I’ll switch over to TV and to HBO’s True Blood series.  Do you have an ultimate vampire movie?

  2. I love Queen of the Damned too1 Like you I want the vampires to be people, not just things that must be killed (although some are!). I am pretty fond of the True Blood series too, although I am never quite sure why. Great concepts I guess. :)

  3. Interview With the Vampire by far. I mean could you possible cram anymore eye candy into one movie? I love Antonio Banderas line to Brad Pitt, “My name is Armand, you’d do well to remember that.” No but really. Great acting (Kirsten Dunst was great as the little girl), plot, setting… a very dark but practical feel.
