Nights of Passion is thrilled to welcome back Rebecca Royce.
Rebecca is a paranormal romance author. Please, define for our viewers what that means to you.
First of all Sue, thanks for having me back. Its such a joy to be here. To me the Paranormal refers to anything that is ‘other.’ There are typical prototypes involved in this, for example the vampire, the werewolf or shifter, the demon. But to me it can also include any kind of magical ability or fantasy that takes us out of our normal realm of human comfort and forces us to confront the things that go bump in the night. Now, for me, I also throw some romance into this equation which is what makes it a Paranormal Romance.
How are the worlds of Rebecca Royce different from other paranormal romance authors?
Hmm. Thats a good question. I think it would be wrong to say that I haven’t been influenced by all of the reading in the genre that I do. But, I think what perhaps makes my world different from others is that I, and this is really true about me, believe that the good guys win. Maybe I was raised on too many heroic tales or spent too much time as a child reading “A Wrinkle in Time” but I have this very optimistic feeling that good will defeat evil. So as I put my characters through what seems sometimes like hell, in my heart and mind I know that in the end (and this can be the end of the series, not necessarily the end of the book) the good guys/good girls will win their war or battle. I hope that what makes me different is that feeling of optimism that I, at least, see in all of my writing.
What’s fun about writing paranormal romance?
What isn’t fun? You can do anything you want with the paranormal. Want your character to fly? They fly. Also it allows us, through the use of the paranormal character, to explore aspects of humanity better left under the table in most circumstances.
I think our writer viewers would like to know how you balance the writing life with everyday life. Do you have any advice on doing this?
Oh wow, okay, I just had my third baby so this question is really interesting to me. I don’t know. I guess, like everyone else, I’m sort of walking around in a fog hoping that I’m doing an okay job at all of it. Anytime spent away from my kids makes me feel guilty, but I’m also more than aware that doing something creative every day helps me be a better mother to them. I try to write every day, a little. Thats the best advice I can give. Try to find half-an-hour to do a little every day.
I have to ask. Why wolves? What in the wolf fascinates you?
It’s the pack culture. They live as a family but with very different rules than our families. I like the idea of combining the two.
Has writing about wolves had any effect on you? I don’t know—baying at the moon? Transforming at odd times? LOL
My dogs and I are very close. I joke. I think I’m very focused on animals
Okay, we’ll be serious now. What’s your writing routine like? How has having the baby changed your routine?
Right now my writing routine is amok. But, in general, I get the kids off to various nursery schools, I feed the baby, and I hope that I have a little time to write before I have to go get the first one from nursery. Then I hope to write in the afternoon too. I’m lucky because I’m at home so it does give me time when they’re resting or busy to do what I need to do in terms of writing.
Rebecca, how about giving us an update on what’s out and your upcoming releases.
Currently available are the first two books in the Westervelt Wolves series “Her
Wolf” and releasing today “Summer’s Wolf.” from Liquid Silver Books. On December 4th, I will have the first in another series releasing from Eirelander Publishing called “Love Beyond Time” which will explore the lives and loves of mythical beings called “The Outsiders.”
Also, I have a book coming soon from Liquid Silver Books called “First Dimension” as well as a sci-fi short story called “Yes, Captain.” On April 4th, Eirelander will be releasing an erotic short story I’ve written called “Behind the Scenes.” And sometime soon Liquid Silver Books will release the third book in the Westervelt series called “Wolf Reborn.” So I’m thrilled and glad to have so much out there and I just hope that the readers enjoy my work.
Thanks so much, Rebecca. It’s been great having you on Nights of Passion. For those interested in finding out more about Rebecca Royce, please, visit: www.rebeccaroyce.com or find me on Facebook at Fans of Rebecca Royce.
